Application Requirements

We can't wait to read from you! The Urega Scholarship Program application has been designed to focus on you! Our program is unique as our focus is not on selecting the students with the highest IQ but rather the most extraordinary, those who excel with empathy and humility and have gone through significant challenges to pursue their education.

We practice a Holistic Review Process, which means that everything you share with us has equal weight in our selection decision. No element in your application, such as your grades, class rank, or essay, is more important than the others in our review process. We want to get to know you and determine how/if we can help.

Eligibility Requirements

1Be in Form 4, Form 5, or Lower Sixth at the time of application.
2Be younger than 21 years of age.
3Show true dedication to your education through academic performance!
4Respond to an essay prompt (click here to read our requirements).
5Provide the contact details of a recommender; she/he can be an academic or a community member.
6Successfully submit the completed scholarship application before the deadline.
7Late submissions will NOT be considered.

The Application

Prepare and submit your application before the deadline. For 2023, our deadline is on the 16th of June.

Interview Invitation

You may receive an invitation to interview a few weeks after our deadline.

Final Decision

A few weeks after your interview, you will receive our decision.

Detailed Application Process

The sections below cover in more detail the Application Process outlined above.
If you are an applicant or parent, you will find below an overview of what to expect at each stage of selecting a Urega Scholar.

The goal of our interview is to know more about your background, goals, and aspirations for the future. This will be done through a 1:1 conversation with a member of our team. Depending on your location, you will be invited to schedule an in-person interview at Open Dreams - our partner's locations, or online through Zoom or Whatsapp.

Please note that the discussion is not a scholarship guarantee but merely part of the selection process.

A few weeks after your interview, you will be notified by email and/or phone whether or not you have been selected as a Urega Scholar. If selected, this email will contain the necessary information, requests, and deadlines to make sure we can fulfill the logistics of the scholarship.

If you are not selected, you will receive an email from us and encouragement for the future. We are very welcoming of reapplications, and we encourage all candidates who have not been successful to reapply if/when possible.

Please be advised that reapplying does NOT guarantee you will be granted the scholarship, as you will be evaluated in the pool of applications received.

After accepting our scholarship offer, you will officially become a member of the Urega family. As a Urega Scholar, we will cover your educational expenses, such as tuition and books, up to FCFA 200,000 during a single academic year. We will pay this amount directly to your school or through our partners. In exchange, we ask you to commit to the following:

Rising or staying at the top of your class, doing your best to achieve the best grades at the GCE Ordinary or Advanced Level.
Abstaining from committing any crime or actions that may jeopardize you academically.
Remaining available once a month to connect with your Urega Mentor and update them on anything in your life or share any struggle you might have, academic or not.
Continuing to develop your professional skills, deepening your academic vocabulary, and strengthening your writing skills.
Sharing (if applicable) your post-graduation plans with your Urega Mentor and creating a plan of action regarding testing, essays, and how to prepare for post-secondary life.

By accepting the conditions mentioned above, you will officially be welcomed into the Urega Family.
